Today I'm going to reveal to you things I wish I knew before starting my affiliate marketing business.
Now, I know many of you are new to making money online, and you may not have made your first sale yet, or you may have, but you're not really deep into the game yet.
I want to share a few things from a larger list that I wish I knew before I started. And if I knew these things, I would have seen success way, way faster—some of these things I didn't expect.
So I want you to have realistic expectations, learn from my mistakes, and hope to help you achieve success faster and easier than myself.
… And what you should know about this business before you jump in.
I'm about to teach you probably not what you would like to hear, but I am only doing this for your own benefit.
If you actually learn and understand these tools initially, you will have better chances to be placed in the top 1% of real affiliate marketers.
Believe it or not, 99% of affiliate marketers fail simply because they don't know these things.
THERE ARE TWO WAYS THAT YOU CAN LEARN THESE 10 THINGS
- Number one, you can learn them through trial and error, but chances are, you will give up sooner than you think. Most people don't make it just because it takes time and dedication. It took me a couple of years to actually learn these things.
- Number two is learning from others who have already experienced all the ups and downs in this business and become successful, then apply it. I 100% encourage you to do so, as long as you learn from the right person.
Now, these things I'm going to share with you are in no specific order. I didn't really rank these things, but I think that they are all essential.
10 THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE STARTING MY AFFILIATE MARKETING BUSINESS

#1- FIRST THINGS FIRST IS THE MINDSET
What am I talking about? I am talking about the mindset of being an entrepreneur.
As a background, I always was an entrepreneur, but I know that most of you come from an employment situation.
That's the majority of people looking for an online business. So this is the case of mindset. You have to change your mindset.
You don't just show up to your affiliate marketing business, which, by the way, is a real business, and sit in your chair in front of your computer screen, exercise some basic tasks, waiting for the time to run and get paid for being there.
- This is a mindset shift.
- This is something you have to understand, and you're going to have to accept it.
- This is when you need to be ready to take the risk and convince yourself that you are willing to do anything it takes to make this business work for you.
I will be talking a lot about the mindset because I really believe this is the key to success.
#2- NOTHING IS AS SIMPLE AS IT SEEMS
You will hear many six-figure earners or even seven-figure earners in this industry called affiliate marketing, making a very significant amount of money.
But I have to disappoint. It's not as simple as it seems. And what I mean by that is, I'm not saying that the process of creating this lifestyle isn't simple, but the financial freedom and beyond, to change your life situation is going to be a bit difficult.
Be prepared to put in the work and be prepared to learn the skills gradually over time.
When I first started online, I got very frustrated because I didn't get the instant results that I thought would happen immediately.
There is a type of delayed gratification required if you want to create success online, which is why most people quit too soon without understanding the process and not willing to put in the required work and time.
Once you understand this, you'll start to take action.
Knowing that the results will come in the future, (it may not be tomorrow, it may not be next week, it may not be in two, three months down the road), if you have a vision and you know where you want to go, you know that you have the potential of earning as much as you like, then, that should be enough to keep you going.
#3- THERE IS NO GETTING RICH QUICK SHORTCUT
A lot of people like to preach that you can get rich really quickly.
This is just a sales pitch to grab your money quickly and easily.
This is a serious business, and any business that provides a reward will take work that you have to put in and takes commitment.
You need to invest in yourself and your business. Everything you learn must be applied.
For any of you who expects something else, this business model is not for you, and you're going to ”fall flat on your face” before you even start.
If you're not committed to putting in the necessary work, you're not going to get any results, and you're going to keep looking for something else just because” This System Doesn't Work,” right?
This requires real skills. So to become a master, it takes hours upon hundreds of hours of practice.
Many people aren't willing to actually learn those skills just because it requires time, and they only want to make money really fast, if possible, overnight.
How are you going to make money if you haven't learned a skill?
- You're going to be able to learn first how to build and operate a business.
- You have to have a long term mentality, meaning you're willing to actually put in the work, knowing that will take time until the results will show up.
- You need to have the right vehicle to guide you and bring you to the right destination.
#4- INVEST IN YOURSELF & YOUR EDUCATION
I wish I would be invested in paid value courses and training much earlier.
When I first started affiliate marketing, I had €38,000 in my bank account saved from my offline business. I actually blew through all this money because I didn't know what the freak I was doing.
I use to pay for all types of cheap crap e-books, PDFs that shows how easy making money online it is, but nothing of real value to be able to implement it properly, and I was looking for another thing, again and again, filling up my desktop with all kinds of cheap junks.
With the free content found on Google and YouTube videos, you will learn a few things here and there, but the content creators will not give you the free stuff in your best interest. They're going to create content that is going to help their following row only.
The free content is limited, and when you learn piece by piece from different marketers, like, you learn about email marketing from someone, funnel sales from another, how to build a web page from someone else, you're going to be trying to put all these puzzle pieces together, which I did.
By the end, everything is going to be really messy, and you will not get any results because always are going to be parts missing.
So with that being said, you need to consider investing in a paid course because this will give you access to people's best stuff.
This is exactly what people don't understand. They think, well, if I invest $1,000, I just lost $1,000.
The reality is, what you just did was: you compress your time, you got 60 hours worth of content compressed and a step by step process that is going to teach you the right steps and hold your hands on your success journey.
Instead of spending weeks if not months or years trying to put all the pieces together, you're sailing now on in a safe boot.
You will take that course, follow step by step, apply it, and recover that investment quicker, even get into profit, as long as you can identify the right person you will learn from.
Stop Being Cheap
Many courses out there, they're great, but they're just courses. They're not teaching you.
So you need a mentor that can help you cut through the fat, get right to the good stuff to raise you.
Mentors are usually successful people who value their time, so to get their time, you have to give them some value, and the way it works is, you have to pay them, right?
It's Beneficial for You. How?
Would you rather spend $1,000? Or would you rather lose $100,000?
I know now, I'd rather spend $1000. Because if you don't spend that thousand dollars, you're losing $100,000 in money you could have made.
So think about it. It's all about perspective. People are grown-minded.
Save up, and then when you have money, invest in high-quality training. Here is all of the knowledge boxed up for you, step by step, so you will know exactly what to do.
Don't buy a course from people who are just selling the hype. You don't want to get involved in something that says you will make 500k in one month because that's probably not going to happen.
Be realistic about it. Kind of try to vent out who you're giving your money to. And make wise investments.
Use your time wisely; don't just buy things and never use them. That's not investing. Buy the tools you need, buy the training you need, and make use of them.
Affiliate marketing can absolutely change your life, and you will definitely build and grow an amazing online business.
Do You Want to Do It Slower? Do You Want to Do It Fast?
When you invest in yourself, you take it more seriously because you actually spend money on it. And you have that extra motivation to take action.

#5- JOIN, PROMOTE, EARN
At the beginning of this journey, many people think that all they need to do is join a program, go on social media, slap in some aggressive posts about how great is that product, and expect to make money.
There's much more than that. This isn't going to bring in any cash and is definitely not going to be a business.
- You need to learn about Sales Automation.
- You need to learn about advertising.
- You need to learn about psychology and persuasion.
So whenever you're creating any ads or just simple social media posts, you need to learn what triggers people actually to buy what makes them buy.
The number one reason people are talking about getting rich quick, and you will always see those getting quick rich ads, is because people always want something for nothing.
So this is the tactics used by ‘real marketers‘ playing off of your site psychology, getting you to take action, leveraging persuasion and manipulation for you actually to buy their stuff.
We have already clarified this in reality. There is no getting rich quick system.
That's the psychology in persuasion. That's what people want.
- You will need to learn about email marketing, copy-writing, which is persuasion through the written word.
- You need to learn analytics.
- You need to learn how to track your numbers, business, and accounting, run profitable advertisement campaigns, learn expenses, etc.
- And finally, you need to learn the systems.
You need to learn how to put systems in place to connect your sales funnels, your autoresponders, and much more.
If you're looking for a business, then let's build a real business. It is not a simple process as just joining, promoting, and making money.
This is the biggest issue with beginners because that's what they're sold and told.
Now sorry if you don't like my theory, but the reason why 99% fail and 1% succeed is because the 1% know this stuff.
They know that they need all these moving parts to create the whole machine of businesses.
A business machine, right?
It's like a car. If you don't have the engine, how will you go ahead and get somewhere?
If you don't know the systems and have one missing piece of the puzzle, how will you succeed in the whole business model?
#6- BUILDING ONLINE FOUNDATION
The one big mistake I made when I first started was not focusing on building my business foundation, which is the website (this blog).
I wish I had started to build my website sooner for many reasons.
- First, it takes time to get indexed on Google.
- Second, builds your brand. People find your stuff easier, and you create authority.

#7- FLUFF & BS
Companies out there create an affiliate program just because that's what their competitors are doing.
- You will never get the necessary help and support you need to grow.
- You need to know how to identify those companies.
- You don't want to invest anything in any of this.
But on the other hand, some companies absolutely love their affiliates, and they have amazing affiliate programs.
- They keep growing and are successful because they pay their affiliates a reasonable amount of their own profits.
- They're taking care of them.
- They assign them a manager who actually interacts with them.
- They help the affiliate to get more sales and give them a lot of training and support.
- They build a solid relationship between the company and the affiliate because, at the end of the day, the affiliate is responsible for generating hundreds of thousands in revenue, if not millions.
When you are looking to join an affiliate company, do your research and make sure you join the right team.

#8- KNOW YOUR WHY
You must know your WHY.
- Why do you do what you want to do?
- What drives you towards success?
If you don't know your WHY, you're just going to be going through the motions without a purpose, and you're going to want to quit and give up quickly.
What's the most important thing in your life, and what motivates you to keep going?
I am doing all this because of my kids. They are my weakest link.
- I don't want them to get through the same things I did in life.
- I want to enjoy seeing them grow and offer them the best version of the life.
I got my moments when I wanted to quit, but then I quickly thought of my WHY.
You see, it wasn't about just me anymore, because it's easy to quit on yourself.
It's about them, and this makes me stronger to keep fighting.
Put some extra pressure on yourself and make it about people and things you love as well.
It's got to be bigger than you so that you will succeed.
#9- FAILING IS NOT A MISTAKE
It's OK to fail and make mistakes.
I understand that you are afraid to fail.
My advice is, don't be afraid to fail because this is a part of the game.
You're starting on a new journey. It is absolutely OK and normal to fail, but that doesn't mean you have to give up.
This is the way you learn, is a learning process, and know that you're one step closer to success.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
To get things right, you may fail once or twice, and that's OK, but once you find that one thing that does work out, you stick with it double down, keep your head up and keep pushing.
The only true failure is given up. That's the only time you actually fail, so never give up.
#10- NOT LOVING WHAT YOU DO
Even if you make a lot of money, if you don't love what you do, you're just gonna feel empty and unfulfilled.
I know many people in high paying and respected jobs that they have a lot of money, but they're extremely depressed and living life with no motivation.
So, make sure you love it no matter what.
I always had a passion for helping others, and when I got the full picture of internet marketing, I literally fall in love.
This was a bonus for me. I had the courage to keep going even I didn't see results for a long period of time.
I stopped thinking that I am doing this for money, and I kept going because I love it.
This was the time when I got to see improvements and money in my PayPal account.
